Delegation 102: One to three days ~ Sat., Feb. 18, 2012 - Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012 - specialty program ~ design your own Zapatista experience!
Unique one to three-day experiences in autonomous, Mayan civilian centers with emphasis on the social, cultural, educational, health, and/or agricultural aspects of the Zapatista movement. Side trips are available to ancient Mayan cities. Each trip will highlight extraordinary study abroad and service experiences which have helped create profound social awareness over the last sixteen years.
When: Trips can begin before, during, or after the AAPLAC conference. Participants determine the specific dates, locations, and focus for these trips. You should allow a minimum of two months planning to ensure an excellent and well-organized specialty Zapatista study tour! However you might find an already planed trip that you could join. Click here to send an application.
Who: Participants and family of those attending the AAPLAC conference. Contact LIbby Navarro (619) 232-2841 in case you are an individual who might be willing to join others in a speciality tour already in the planning stages. Click here to send an application.
What: Unique one to three-day in autonomous, Mayan commuities and civilian centers with emphasis on dignity, democracy, and justice. Groups will explore the social, cultural, educational, health, and/or agricultural aspects of the Zapatista movement and the autonomous, indigenous communities. Academic or direct working experiences can be included. Side trips can be arranged to include visits to ancient Mayan cities. Click here to begin application.
Where: Trips can vary from the cool and misty cloud forests of the highlands to the steamy jungles of the jungle region of the Mexican southeast.
Cost: In an attempt to make our delegations accessible to more participates, Schools for Chiapas' fees vary depending on where you live and work. The basic cost for a three day, one overnight, rustic “camping-style” trip is one week of the minimum wage. (For example, USA participants would pay $300 for a ground package that includes food, full-time guide, translation support, education materials, orientations, housing, transportation within Chiapas – air fare and airport transfers are NOT included.) Day-trips based in comfortable city hotels with daily transportation to the countryside are somewhat more expensive if we have to book your hotel.
Why: Your group will decide the focus and goals of the trip in conjunction with Schools for Chiapas personnel; however, our overall goal is to help birth a world guided by dignity, democracy, and justice ~ a world where everyone is respected and honored.
