Dates and activities to be determined by participants
Delegation 76Alt: Fall 2008 and 2009 specialty tour programs ~ design your own Zapatista experience!
When: Dates are currently available in Sept., Oct., and Dec. 2008; plus Feb., May, and June of 2008 minimum of four months planning is necessary to create a specialty tour!
Who: Student groups, women and faith-based organizations, activist collectives, artists’ co-ops, others. Minimum number of participants is six; maximum is 22.
What: Unique one week to one month immersion experiences in autonomous, Mayan civilian centers with emphasis on the social, cultural, educational, health, and/or agricultural aspects of the Zapatista movement. Side trips are available to ancient Mayan cities, rain and cloud forests, tropical rivers, and beautiful colonial cities.
Where: Trips can vary from the cool and misty cloud forests of the highlands to the steamy jungles of the jungle region of the Mexican southeast.
Cost: In an attempt to make our delegations accessible to more participates, your fees vary depending on where you live and work. The basic cost for a rustic “camping-style” trip is two weeks of the minimum wage. (For example, USA participants now pay about $560 for this ground package that includes food, full-time guide, translation support, education materials, orientations, housing, transportation in Chiapas – air and airport transfers are NOT included.) Tours based in cities with daily transportation to the countryside are somewhat more expensive.
Why: Your group will decide the focus and goals of the trip in conjunction with Schools for Chiapas personnel.
